WHY VOLUNTEER IN INDIA?
India is one of the fastest growing and developing nations in the world today and still poverty and illiteracy remain key issues within India. Although larger cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai and more have developed quite a lot over the last 10 years, they along with all other parts of India are still suffering from poverty. Aim India works with local communities and NGO's in India and help bring a change to the lives of the downtrodden. Volunteers can make a huge difference in the lives of street children in places like Delhi, work with local NGO's supporting women empowerment, teach English at local community schools and also help in hospitals and clinics to bring a change in the lives of local people.
Aim India has been also working with several NGO's in India and has been sending a steady number of volunteers to these centres. This is really important and now our international volunteers coming to India play a big role in running of these NGO's, they support both financially and personally to help the local communities.

Slums are a big part of the city even today and many live in poverty.

What's the difference between an intern and a volunteer?
We are asked this quite often. Basically, an internship is something that you choose to do in order to develop your skills in a profession. Volunteering can also serve this purpose, but the driving force is your desire to help out. So for example, a teaching program can be viewed as an internship by those who wish to develop their teaching skills, or as volunteering for those who are just looking to help out.
