CERVICAL CANCER AWARENESS PROGRAMME AT SHANKRAIL BLOCK, HOWRAH
On 23rd and 24th May 2023, AIM Foundation organized a **Cervical Cancer Awareness Program** for Anganwadi workers in the Sankrail Block of Howrah, West Bengal, held at the Jhorehat FCA Indoor Hall in Andul. The two-day program aimed to educate and empower Anganwadi workers, who play a crucial role in community health, about cervical cancer prevention, early detection, and reproductive health.
Cervical cancer awareness is essential for informing women about the causes, risk factors, and preventive measures related to the disease. The program covered a broad range of topics, starting with an overview of cervical cancer, its causes, symptoms, and risk factors. Participants were trained in the importance of regular screenings, such as Pap smears and HPV vaccinations, which can significantly reduce the risk of cervical cancer.
In addition to cervical cancer awareness, the program focused on broader aspects of women’s reproductive health, including menstrual hygiene, family planning, and general gynecological issues. This knowledge will help the Anganwadi workers better educate women in their communities about their health and empower them to take preventive steps.
Dr. Piyali Bhaduri, a qualified medical professional, led the sessions, providing expert guidance and answering participants' questions. Her insights into the importance of early detection and prevention strategies were invaluable in helping the Anganwadi workers gain the confidence to spread this vital information within their communities.
Through initiatives like this, AIM Foundation is working to reduce the stigma surrounding cervical cancer, promote early screening and prevention, and ultimately reduce the incidence and mortality rates associated with the disease. This program is just one of many efforts aimed at improving the health and well-being of women in the region, and it aligns with AIM Foundation's broader commitment to advancing public health awareness and education.
